Free trade – a dead end for developing countries
Seminar on 13 June 2006, at 17.00–19.00
The Swedish interdisciplinary research network on livelihoods, land and natural resource governance in sub-Saharan Africa
Venue: Nordic Africa Institute, lecture room on floor 2 (Kungsgatan 38, Uppsala).
Rune Skarstein, associate professor at the Norwegian University of Technology and Science, NTNU, Trondheim, has a long experience from research and education regarding development issues in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He has published a number of books and articles on the character and implications of capitalism, globalisation agricultural development and trade. His research has both a strong empirical and theoretical focus. This approach has made him able to reveal a number of weaknesses related to conventional economic theory of the neo-classical type. In this seminar he scrutinises the assumptions, logic and findings of neo-classical free trade theory and relate it to the real world and empirical findings.
All are welcome
