Minutes from meeting on 7 September 2006
Swedish Interdisciplinary research network on livelihoods, land and natural resource governance in Sub-Saharan Africa
The meeting was held at Dalarna University College, Falun.
Present:
Kjell Havnevik, Nordic Africa Institute and SLU
Tekeste Negash, Dalarna University College
Gunilla Bjerén, Stockholm University
The meeting focussed on network themes.
It was decided that the gender perspective should be a theme in the network.
Dalarna university college and Stockholm university are planning a course in “Gender in African social structure” for fall 2007.
The global perspective and the macro-micro relationships should also be emphasised. It is important to be aware of how global frameworks are generated and set and how they influence the local level/grass-roots. Global dominance in Africa is an important theme. Kjell Havnevik contributed a lecture on this topic to the launching meeting of the African Centre at Dalarna University College on September 6, 2007.
Educational aspects. How is knowledge generated and what of knowledge and competence are required to address the challenges related to the network themes.
This issue will be taken up in the planned network workshop at the Nordic Africa Institute in March 2007.
