Lectures, conferences and other public events where the Nordic Africa Institute is involved. Previous events.

Starting January 2010 NAI will have lectures, conferences etc. at other venues than their own at Kungsgatan 38. Please make sure to always check the location of the event you plan to attend.

11 March: Lecture with Frances Stewart
'Inequalities between social groups leading to conflicts'.
14.15-16.00 hrs in
the Nordic Africa Institute's Library, Kungsgatan 38, Uppsala. Information about the lecture (pdf).

18 March, 9.30-11.00 hrs.: Public seminar with Shanta Devarajan, the World Bank's chief economist for Africa. African Development Indicators, 2010 “ Silent and Lethal: How Quiet Corruption Undermines Africa’s Development Efforts". The seminar takes place at NAI, level 3, Kungsgatan 38, Uppsala.

22-24 March:  Workshop on 'Explorations of 'Afrinesia': Experimental Approaches to Legal and Political Anthropology in Africa
Responsible researcher is Knut Myhre. The workshop will be held at Uppsala University. Read background information (pdf).

26-28 April: Writing Workshop on 'Displacement Economies: Paradoxes of Crisis and Creativity in African Contexts'
With researcher Amanda Hammar. The workshop will be held at the Nordic Africa Institute.

23-26 September: Africa in focus at 2010 Gothenburg book fair

Africa will be the focus theme for 2010 of the yearly Bok & Bibliotek book and library fair in Gothenburg, Sweden. The venture is organised by the Nordic Africa Institute in cooperation with Bok & Bibliotek and the Swedish development cooperation agency Sida, which is the main funder of the project. Nordic publishers and other organizations will also collaborate in organizing the event.  

The rich African literature will be presented at fair in display stands, seminars and readings. We will also cooperate with culture NGOs in Gothenburg to create other events during the four days of the book fair, such as dance, theatre, visual art and music. Read more at the Africa 2010 website.

30 September – 1 October 2010: The Nordic Africa Days 2010
"Time Space Africa: Reconnecting the Continent". The Nordic Africa Days 2010 takes place in Åbo/Turku, Finland 30 September – 1 October 2010. Call for panels and papers deadline is 1 March 2010.
